Jem + Bea

Multi-award winning luxury accessories brand Jem + Bea was launched in 2015 by friends Dominique Hughes and Rebecca Da Silva Lima. Unable to find a desirable changing bag on the market when looking for themselves, they set about creating a collection that was both covetable and practical for stylish mothers.

Before launching Jem + Bea, Rebecca designed for Mulberry, Anya Hindmarch and Burberry. Dominique, who has a serious handbag obsession, came from a law background, which gave them the perfect platform to start the brand.

In keeping with the first style that was brought to market – the now iconic Jemima Bag – each new bag is designed to be modern, fashion-led and luxurious, offering something different, such as a mini clutch, a fresh colour way or a hands-free option. As a wardrobe staple, Dominique and Rebecca believe bags are an indispensable part of your style, identity and personality, so why should a changing bag be any different?

Every season new collections are designed and crafted in premium leathers and materials that they have lovingly hand-picked. Functional details are cleverly worked into the brand’s designs, to create beautiful bags that are durable enough to stand up to the rigours of daily life with a baby.

Sustainability at Jem + Bea

Jem + Bea is committed to reducing the impact of their actions on the environment. They believe it is their responsibility to take positive action now, in order to protect the planet for future generations.

Jem + Bea take a holistic approach to environmental issues and are committed to working towards more sustainable production, from the materials they source through to the packaging of their products.

Recycled Nylon

The JEM + BEA SUSTAINABLE range has been thoughtfully designed with the environmental issues facing our planet in mind, together with their signature Jem + Bea DNA throughout.

They have worked closely with their suppliers to incorporate more sustainable materials, particularly in the case of their nylons, many of which are certified by the GRS (Global Recycle Standard).

In 2019 they partnered with ECONYL® – world leaders in regenerated nylon yarn. The nylons used in the sustainable range have been expertly crafted from post-consumer waste – such as disused fishing nets, carpets and plastic bottles from the ocean and landfill. Using this regenerated nylon reduces energy consumption, reduces waste to landfills, conserves petroleum resources, helps clear our oceans and protect precious sea life.

Sustainable Leathers

Jem + Bea is passionate about their leather collection and strongly believe in the sustainability of ethically sourced leathers, as opposed to faux leather substitutes made from plastics. They create designs that are made to last and many of their customers can testify to the longevity of their Jem + Bea bags, taking them beyond the baby years.

Their leathers are sourced from sustainable farms and are crafted using only chrome-free tanning methods. This is a more gentle method which eliminates the need for this heavy metal.  All of their tanneries carry the LWG (Leather Working Group) certification.

All of their gift boxes, paper hangtags and external boxes are made from recycled paper pulp. They have sourced and designed biodegradable polybags (used to protect their bags in transit). These are completely compostable, avoiding the use of single use plastic polybags. In addition, they have reduced the amount of outer packaging on their bags such as the foam packaging around the handles and zip pulls which is often difficult to recycle.

Your Jem + Bea bag will still arrive beautifully packaged, just with less waste.

We would love for you to continue the cycle by reusing, repurposing or recycling our packaging when you have finished with it.
